Houston County Engineer Receives Top Honor
MONTGOMERY – Houston County Engineer Mark Pool was a bit surprised to hear his name called today as the 2009 Engineer of the Year during the awards luncheon at the Association of County Engineers of Alabama’s Annual Conference. But, to his peers, it’s an honor well deserved.
Pool, who has been Houston County’s top county engineer since 1995, is also a past president of ACEA and remains active in the Association on committees and with the statewide County Joint Bid Project, a project to allow counties to save money while purchasing heavy equipment, herbicides and road signs. He has also served as a educator and leader for many of Alabama’s county engineers as a guest lecturer for many different programs across the state.
“Mark’s involvement in ACEA is an example we can all follow,” said ACEA President and Jefferson County Engineer Wayne Sullivan. “His selflessness and consistent dedication serving our Association and membership have brought on many benefits for the group. Mark is very progressive and inventive, and his can-do attitude are just a few examples of his leadership in our Association. It was an honor to be able to present Mark with this award.”
