Macon County, Alabama County Engineer Qualifications: Certified as a professional engineer and the ability to complete annual continuing education units to maintain certification. A degree in engineering and a minimum of 10 years experience in civil engineering, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to perform the work. Good communicator, U.S. citizen, must have valid Alabama drivers’ license. Job summary: Plan, organize, direct the engineering department’s operations and personnel and ensure the timely and accurate completion of construction and maintenance functions within the road and bridge department. Develop long-range and short-range plans and priorities for the completion of engineering, road and bridge projects of a unit system. Establish and maintain departmental budget and records with direct supervision over the department employees. Make difficult administrative decisions in carrying out general county goals and objectives. Under the direction of the Road Maintenance Supervisor and the Bridge Inspector, the employee operates equipment to assist with bridge construction and repair. Assigns work to staff and ensures proper completion. Completes paperwork concerning payroll, leave requests, and daily activities. Performs manual labor in the construction and repair of bridges including laying floors, setting wheels, and setting spikes. Physical Requirements and Qualifications:
Work Environment: The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights under extreme outdoor weather conditions. Education and/or Experience:
