Duties: Assists County Engineer in all duties of the Engineer as prescribed by state and local laws; performs technical and engineering work in the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges; performs surveying work and engineering services needed to prepare plans; manages projects from beginning to end; and performs other duties as prescribed by the County Engineer.

Work Schedule: 40 hours weekly, Monday through Friday (and as needed).

Assistant County Engineer

Salary Range: $46,000 to $60,000 (EIT) / $60,000 to $79,500 (PE) based on experience

Requirements:  Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university and certification as an Engineer-in-Training in Alabama.

Duties: The Assistant County Engineer assists the County Engineer with all functions and operations of the Highway Department through the application of engineering principles and practices as prescribed by law and directed by the County Commission.

Salary Range: $50,000 - $55,000

Requirements:  A graduate Civil Engineer with a current Engineer In Training (EIT) certificate in the State of Alabama.  Computer skills are mandatory.   EIT should have ability to learn Micro Station and other software.

Duties include, but are not limited to, assisting the County Engineer in the construction and maintenance of streets, roads, and bridges and all other duties as assigned.  The EIT will assist the County ALDOT certified Bridge Inspector with the Bridge Program to gain the necessary experience and training to become an ALDOT certified Bridge Inspector.  Some climbing ability will be required.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Assistant Engineer

Salary Range: $39,456.00 to $58,372.80 based on experience.

Requirements: A graduate Civil Engineer and a certified Engineer Intern in the State of Alabama in good standing.

Duties: Assist the County Engineer in all duties of the engineer as prescribed by law. These duties include, but are not limited to, performing technical, administrative and professional engineering work in the location, design, construction, and maintenance of highways, bridges and other structures; performing minor surveying duties and supervising county highway department employees; serving as liaison between the county and the public; managing a variety of construction projects, including Federal & State Aid projects, from beginning to end; and performing duties necessary and incident to the operation of the county as directed by the County Engineer. Assistant will be responsible for preparing construction storm water permit applications and maintaining reports during project construction. Assistant will attend various continuing education classes and become certified in a variety of engineering areas related to construction and testing. Position will include both office duties and duties in the field.

Work Schedule: 40 hours weekly, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. (and as needed).

Minimum Experience Required: Knowledge in engineering work involving design, construction and maintenance of roads and bridges. The ability to work well with the public. Drivers license required. Computer skills in Micro Station and ArcView desired, but not required.
