Bridge Foreman / Equipment Operator

The Dallas County Commission is seeking candidates to fill the position of bridge foreman / equipment operator. Under the direction of the Road Maintenance Supervisor and the Bridge Inspector, the employee operates equipment to assist with bridge construction and repair. Assigns work to staff and ensures proper completion. Completes paperwork concerning payroll, leave requests, and daily activities. Performs manual labor in the construction and repair of bridges including laying floors, setting wheels, and setting spikes.

Physical Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of equipment operation, safety procedures, and preventative maintenance.
  • Ability read and fill out routine forms and records.
  • Knowledge of equipment, supplies, and material used in road and bridge construction.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and general public.
  • Ability to work without close supervision.
  • Math skills and ability to read tape measure.
  • Mobility and dexterity to bend, crouch, stretch, etc.
  • Ability to operate motor vehicle and heavy equipment.
  • Ability to climb and withstand large heights.
  • Ability to lift objects over 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work nonstandard hours.

Work Environment:

The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights under extreme outdoor weather conditions.

Education and/or Experience:

  • At least three months experience supervising a bridge crew or any combination of education or experience which provides the qualifications listed.
  • Valid CDL – Class A
